I graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (1990); Master's degree in Clinical Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) with a thesis on hepatitis C (1997); Ph.D. in Clinical Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro with a 1-year Ph.D. in the Hepato-biliary Center at Paul Brousse Hospital, Villejuif, France, thesis on hepatitis A (2002); postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Regenerative Medicine, University of Edinburgh, UK, in the area of cell therapy in Hepatology (2010). I am specialist in Clinical (Internal) Medicine, Hepatology and Intensive Care and full time Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. My mais areas of research are chronic liver disease, portal hypertension and stem cells therapy. I currently coordinate the Liver Hemodynamics Laboratory of the University Hospital Clementino Fraga Filho of UFRJ. I chaired the Research Committee on Cell Therapy from 2009 to 2011 and was Director of the Research Division of the same hospital from 2011 to 2013.
